The SummerFest Arts Festival was originated in 2013 through the vision of a few local artisans and the Blackford County Community Foundation. SummerFest is an all day festival dedicated to the arts and is located on the downtown courthouse square. One of the missions of Tori’s Butterfly Garden Foundation (TBGF) is to support the arts. We joined forces in 2015 with the SummerFest Committee to continue this great day for the county. TBGF joined the SummerFest Committee Board and works with Mayor Ben Hodgin on behalf of the city, the County Commissioners, the Downtown Revitalization Committee, and the Blackford County Arts Center to provide a day like no other in Blackford County. TBGF’s mission to promote the arts in Blackford County is easily attained through this festival and helps along with the rest of the SummerFest Committee to continue to develop this event and make it bigger and better each year.

The 2017 SummerFest Arts Festival is the fourth year for this event and is held the last Saturday of July each year. This year it is on July 29th, 2017. SummerFest is a celebration of the arts. The day includes local artisans showcasing their works for sale, live music, dance performances, a juried art show in conjunction with the Blackford County Arts Center, free children’s arts and craft activities provided by Tori’s Butterfly Garden Foundation, the local farmer’s market and good food. This festival has grown bigger each year in vendors and attendees.

SummerFest helps by exposing the community both young and old to the arts. The SummerFest Arts Festival brings together all different forms of art from metalwork, stained glass, woodworking, jewelry making, pottery, photography, painting, music and dance for all to participate in, see, and hear. It also brings native Blackford county people who now live out of the county back to enjoy a wonderful day downtown.
